Kathy Ford
HOST 2024 27 Ireland St., Worthington MA, 413-238-0219
Kathy makes improvisational fiber art (quilts and weavings) with abstract geometrics or representational collage, connecting mysterious, archetypal, and familiar through developing relationships between individual pieces.
She grew up in Rochester, New York, graduated from Hobart & William Smith Colleges with a major in design theory, and received a Master of Architecture from Harvard University in 1985. She practiced architecture in New York and Massachusetts for thirty-five years, working with local non-profit community organizations to design affordable housing in existing and historic buildings.
Her work as a quiltmaker began shortly after becoming a mother in 1991.
Now an empty nester, she lives with her dog and three cats on a beautiful parcel of land in Worthington, devoting daily work to fiber art, writing, homesteading, and community collaboration.
Lifelong exploration into holistic health and spirituality includes mothering a child with special needs, training in energy medicine, and somatics. Her book, Adding Wood To The Fire, A Quiltmaker’s Way was published in December 2017. Part tale of artist finding voice, of quiltmaking process, and of awakening, the heart of the book is a story of creative spirit.
Kathy’s quilts have been exhibited in juried shows and sold to private collections. Her body of work can be seen at kathyford.net and is an exhibiting member of Oxbow Art Gallery in Easthampton, MA.
