HOST 2024 – 88 Porter Hill Road, Cummington, MA

Using primarily earthenware clay and wood my  sculptural work is inspired by the Jewish  material culture of the Eastern European prior  to WW II- a rich source of inspiration as I reflect  on what can be the strengths as well as  vulnerabilities of living in yet another diaspora. All my wheel thrown work and some of my  sculptures are made w 100% local clay.

My work with clay, whether wheel thrown, sculpted or  shaped into a bread oven has allowed me to make a  useful contribution as I have engaged w numerous  communities and individuals over the years.  Place, and the materials that I use have always been  very central to my identity. For the last 15 years I have  been revitalizing an 1890s farmstead which is also  home to www. klezcummington.com
