Michael Melle has been making these sculptural scarecrows from hay and sticks for 27 years. They were created out of a desire to make art from natural materials, directly from the fields and forest. The figures have been exhibited all over New England, including the grounds of the Clark Art Institute, The Berkshire Botanical Garden, Arrowhead and Art in The Orchard. They are made In Plain field at the artists hand built home and studio. Michael studied art at the University of Mass and worked as a painter for many years before venturing into these figures. He has held many workshops, teaching this singular technique to people of all ages.
